| Welcome to the online home of Emergency, Leicester's new work showcase: it's emergent, see?
Emergency is Speakeasy Theatre Company's answer to the difficulties faced by emerging artists as they try to get their work on to a professionally lit and publicised stage. Emergency is a regular quarterly showcase hosted by Speakeasy but featuring the work of emerging artists from Leicester and beyond. The shows take place at The Y, East St, Leicester, and typically features six 15-minute slots per night. Any performance art form is applicable - to be considered all you need to do is contact us with an idea. Showreels, press cuttings or glossy publicity are not needed! Priority is given to local artists but guests from outside the region often feature. Student work, work in progress, established artists trying out new ideas and new collaborations and interesting amateur stuff all regularly feature. As well as the showcase, performers get the chance to take part in a pre-show development day where they can chat with technicians, venue managers and Speakeasy staff before rehearsing in the performance venue. There is also after-show support on offer by Creative Leicestershire to help develop their work further. |
